Since 1997 the Kunstkammer Georg Laue has been firmly rooted in the Munich gallery scene. Centrally located, it is in the immediate vicinity of Munich’s most famous museums: the Alte Pinakothek, the Neue Pinakothek and the new Pinakothek der Moderne. Other distinguished neighbours are Neumeister and Hampel, auctioneers, and numerous good restaurants.

On entering the Kunstkammer Georg Laue, you are immediately captivated by the princely ambience created by a magnificently painted stucco ceiling. It was designed in 1873 by Blersch, Stuccoer to the Royal Court of Bavaria, expressly for what was then a coffee house frequented by artists. The ceiling and the original parquet floor have been restored to their former glory. At 56 Schelling Strasse, Georg Laue presents unusual works of art and unique Kunstkammer objects of museum quality which can be both admired and acquired here.

The Kunstkammer Georg Laue focuses on Renaissance and Baroque art. Objects of all kinds made of such exotic materials as coral, ivory, rhinoceros horn, chamois horn, rare woods and the precious metals silver and gold as well as semiprecious stones such as rock crystal, serpentine and many, many more are encountered here. The leading artists of those distant times were often commissioned by royal and later merchant princes to create the most beautiful and one-of-a-kind treasures for their kunstkammer collections.

Georg Laue is particularly fascinated by amber and is consequently internationally known and consulted worldwide as an expert in objects made of this material. Virginie Spenlé, Georg Laue’s business partner, can tell you all about the objects exhibited in the Kunstkammer. Moreover, you can bring treasures of your own to the Kunstkammer for expert advice and information from Georg Laue, who will appraise them and, depending on their value, will have them sold at auction. Anyone who is interested in the Kunstkammer spirit of past and present is welcome here.
